Sample: Inventory and Account (R.I. Prob. Ct. Form PC-7.1 style) for the Estate of Eleanor M. Doe

Everything about this estate is made up except the format. Every figure below is produced by the ledger from ordinary entries (a house sold at a gain, dividends, the funeral bill, two distributions), and it balances to the penny. Yours would look like this, with your numbers.

RIGL 33-14-1 et. seq.PC-7.1 (Rev. 03/21)
County of Estate of Eleanor M. DoeAlias Probate Court of theCity or Town of No.

THE November 14, 2025 through August 31, 2026 ACCOUNT for the period from to

The account number belongs in the first blank, above the period dates, on the form itself; this product prints the period label in its place.

Schedule A (Received)$752,708.18
Schedule B (Paid Out)$170,601.87
Schedule C (Balance/Zero for Final Account)$582,106.31

MUST BE ADVERTISED.

The form’s own words. Nothing here computes when or where; confirm the advertising practice with your own probate clerk.

This is an interim account. Schedule C's own summary line reads “Balance/Zero for Final Account,” which describes a final account, not this one; a nonzero Schedule C balance here is ordinary.

Real Property, on This Document but Not on the Inventory

Rhode Island’s inventory (RIGL 33-9-1) is personal property only; real property never appears on it, by the statute’s own words. This account is different. RIGL 33-14-2 charges the representative with all rents and proceeds of the sale of real estate received, so once real property is sold or rented, the money it produced belongs on Schedule A below. The inventory and this account are not inconsistent; they answer different questions.

This account credits the proceeds of a sale or mortgage of real estate. RIGL 33-22-9 requires the notice given before settling the account to state that the account contains that credit. Confirm the notice for this filing says so before it goes out.

Schedule A

Amount of personal estate according to inventory; or balance of next prior account$321,360.61
Amount received from gain on sale of personal estate over appraised value and from other property as follows$0.00

RIGL 33-14-2 nets a sale of personal property: only the GAIN over appraised value appears here, never the full proceeds. A LOSS on such a sale is credited on Schedule B instead, among payments, charges, losses and distributions. Nothing on this account posts a sale’s full value both ways.

NumberDateDescriptionAmount
1Jan 31, 2026Quarterly dividend$412.55
2Feb 10, 2026Property received, not inventoried: Coin collection found in decedent's safe deposit box$2,150.00

6Apr 30, 2026Quarterly dividend$398.20
7Jun 30, 2026Savings interest$61.80
8Jul 31, 2026Quarterly dividend$421.90
Total of the itemized rows above$431,347.57
Amount according to inventory, or balance of next prior account$321,360.61
Gain on sale of personal estate over appraised value, and other property$0.00
Total of the itemized rows above$431,347.57
SCHEDULE A (RECEIVED), TOTAL$752,708.18

The Schedule A figure in the summary at the top of this account is the sum of all three lines above: the amount according to the inventory, the gain, and the itemized rows.

Income, other property received though not inventoried, and rents and proceeds of the sale of real estate received all belong among these itemized rows; RIGL 33-14-2 charges the representative with all three.

Schedule B

Here follows the settlement of all claims filed with the clerk and not previously accounted for; either by payment in full or in part or by abandonment by the creditor after disallowance: together will all other debts and expenses incurred in the administration of the accounting period.

“Together will all other debts” is the form’s own wording, reproduced as printed. The state’s form plainly means “with,” not “will,” but this product does not silently correct a state form’s text.

Schedule C

This Schedule contains all items of personal property now in possession of the fiduciary, including cash and bank accounts.

The column below reads “Description of payments, charges, losses, and distributions,” the same sentence Schedule B uses, because that is what the form prints for this column too. What this schedule actually holds is what its own heading sentence says: personal property on hand, including cash and bank accounts, not payments.

Investments of the Balance

RIGL 33-14-2 requires the account to display the investments of the balance of the account, if any, and changes of investments. This estate’s record carries no data for this schedule, so it is ruled for the preparer to complete by hand.

Distributions in Kind

BeneficiaryItemCarrying value
Michael Doe2021 Subaru Outback$17,800.00

Specific personal property delivered is credited on Schedule B (RIGL 33-14-2), among legacies and distribution. This table is a breakdown of that credit by beneficiary and item; its figures are not added a second time to Schedule B’s own total.

Distributees named in this account: Sarah Doe, Michael Doe.

Supporting Documents

An executor represented by an attorney in good standing with the Rhode Island Bar may file a certification substantially in the form of RIGL 33-14-2.2, signed by both the executor and the attorney, instead of filing original documents, except documentation required under RIGL 33-14-8. An executor without an attorney must instead submit copies of the front sides of all checks or other documents evidencing the charges, losses and payments on this account.

Most readers of this product are unrepresented, so this is a real, concrete filing burden: copies of the front of every check or other document behind Schedule B’s entries. RIGL 33-14-8’s compensation documentation is required either way, whether or not an attorney files a certification.

When This Account Is Due

RIGL 33-14-1: the account is filed upon completion of the period of administration, and at such other times as the probate court requires. No interim accounting is required unless an interested party requests one, and any interim accounting may be excused by the probate court for good cause.

An executor or administrator who is the sole beneficiary, or who files a release from each beneficiary, may file an Affidavit of Completed Administration, Form PC-7.3, in lieu of a final account. That is a different document, not built here.

Compensation and Charges

Recorded to the fiduciary$9,400.00

RIGL 33-14-8: executors and administrators shall be allowed in their accounts such compensation for their services as the probate court considers just. No percentage and no schedule is set, and this product computes no fee. RIGL 33-14-6 allows all reasonable and proper charges and disbursements for the funeral and in the execution of the trust. RIGL 33-14-9 lets a fiduciary be charged interest, at a rate not more than twelve percent (12%) per annum, for the unreasonable detention of money; that is discretionary and manual, this product does not compute it, and nothing here implies it applies to this estate.

Creditor Claims

RIGL 33-11-5: claims must be presented within six months from the first publication of notice, or they are forever barred, subject to extensions under 33-11-5(b) and to late-claim relief by petition before distribution. Notice of commencement under RIGL 33-11-5.1, given at least sixty days before the six-month deadline, is deemed adequate notice.
