Sample: Accounting of the Personal Representative (Alaska) for the Estate of Eleanor M. Doe

Everything about this estate is made up except the format. Every figure below is produced by the ledger from ordinary entries (a house sold at a gain, dividends, the funeral bill, two distributions), and it balances to the penny. Yours would look like this, with your numbers.

What happens next

On the informal route, this accounting goes to every distributee before the sworn statement (P-355) is filed, or written waivers from every distributee are filed with it. The statement may be filed no earlier than six months after appointment, once the first creditor notice is itself more than six months old (AS 13.16.630).

On the formal route, this accounting goes to the court with the request to close a formal estate (P-360, AS 13.16.620 or AS 13.16.625). The Final Accounting and Proposed Distribution (P-380) may carry the proposed distribution.

Probate Rule 12(b): “no specific format is required for a final account.”

No interim or annual accounting duty applies to a personal representative. The Probate Rules impose one only on a guardian or conservator.
